THE MAJORITARIAN CONVENTION:

Fox News Beats Broadcasters in Convention Coverage (Reuters, 9/01/04)

The Fox News cable channel made a bit of television history by drawing more viewers than any of the Big Three broadcast networks on the opening night of major coverage of the Republican convention, according to figures issued on Wednesday.

Fox News' presentation of Tuesday's speeches by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and first lady Laura Bush drew 5.4 million viewers, more than broadcasters ABC, CBS or NBC.

That marked what is believed to be the first time a cable channel has grabbed the biggest audience for a telecast of a single event covered by all the networks, Fox said.

Combined viewership during the 10 o'clock hour in which the Big Three joined cable outlets Fox News, CNN and MSNBC in carrying Tuesday's proceedings totaled nearly 22.2 million, according to Nielsen Media Research.

That was up from the 18.5 million six-network total for the first night of the Democratic convention in July, when former President Bill Clinton addressed the delegates.

These numbers should scare Democrats even more than Zell Miller did,

No wonder, the loons were protesting outside Fox's NY offices the other day. Besides, their political judgment was half right: The media are the real candidates in this election. The people will in the first place be voting for or against the socialist, mainstream media.

I wonder if Tom Brokaw ever muses about being Kerry's running mate?

Wouldn't we have enjoyed Cheney debating him?

Which is why purist conservative carping about Schwartzenegger's divergence from some party platform planks is so blindingly stupid. Does anyone doubt that Arnold drew quite a few of those 22 million viewers? Arnold was a recruitment tool (why its OK to be a Republican), not a deliverer of the tablets from on high. And he was a darn good recruiter.

Yes. The true believers who insisted they'd rather lose with a conservative than win with Schwarzenegger are so self-indulgent it's disturbing.

We called them "TomBots". And they reminded me more of Turn-or-Burn WITNESSING!!!!! than anything else -- "Have You Accepted Tom Mc Clintock as Your Personal Saviour!" in all but name...

One can tell the Democrats are terrified from their hysterical reaction to the past few days (especially Zell). Boston, in contrast, caused only a mild shrug among conservatives...
