LOSING TOM DASCHLE'S ONE THING...:

Massachusetts Democrat Brian Golden Endorses President Bush (George W. Bush Blog, 9/23/04)

Earlier today, Democratic Massachusetts State Representative Brian Paul Golden announced that he will support President Bush in November over fellow Bay State Democrat John Kerry. Golden’s endorsement comes after witnessing President Bush’s accomplishments on education, Medicare and security issues. In contrast, Golden says that after following John Kerry’s 20-year senate career in Massachusetts, he still doesn’t know what Kerry stands for.

“America needs a president who cares more about doing what is right than doing what is politically expedient. Both at home and abroad, President Bush has made tough decisions and shown a clarity of purpose that makes America stronger and safer,” Golden said.

“President Bush is the right candidate to lead America in the War on Terror because his decisions are based on principle, not politics. Senator Kerry demonstrated a troubling approach to the War on Terror by voting against $87 billion in funding to equip our troops in Iraq with essential supplies like body armor. I have confidence in President Bush as Chief Executive and I will proudly work for his re-election.”

Courageous move by the rep since MA is heavily Dem and even though Kerry isn't that well liked even by MA Dems there will be some payback for this. Also he represents an area right near Boston so he probably comes from a very liberal district.

Here's an idea--the Bush campaign should send out a letter to every elected Democrat in the country--from state legislators and mayors of major towns on up--noting that a great many Democrats are endorsing Bush this year, and inviting them to do so too.

The response, consisting mostly of Red State Dems and a few outliers such as Golden and Washington State's Tim Sheldon will probably be good enough to publically embarass Kerry with.

If this keeps up.......
They are going to have to get a bigger "Dems for Bush" bus!!! lol

He represents an area of Boston & Brookline that is fairly well off, has a lot of people who work in the Harvard Medical School & hospital complex, a lot of BU/BC students & faculty, a big Jewish population.

He served in the Army, that may have something to do with it.

Massachusetts is a one-party state, so we have a fair number of conservative Democrats. It's not like California where the conservatives have all gone Republicans and the Democratic party is all loony.

I work with a guy who actually knows Brian Golden. His district has a growing population of Russian Jews far more conservative than the norm. They know dictatorships and evil first-hand, so they don't fall for utopian liberal fads like many of their neighbors.

YOu're all morons. Except the guy who said the Brookline was home to a lot of Harvard med school people. The Russian Jew thing has got to be a joke. There is no "large" Russian Jew population anywhere in Boston. And most Jews -- even Orthodox -- don't vote Republican, contrary to whatever fantasies you may entertain. Golden's veteran status -- irrelevant.

Brian Golden is an outlier. He's not representative of Dems in Massachusetts or elsewhere. My sense is that he's angling for an appointment in a Bush II administration -- a token democrat. He'd never get elected in MA as a Republican. He's a right-leaning democrat. No shame in that. But the whole "Massachusetts democrat endorses Bush" thing is being overplayed.

No one really cares what Brian Golden thinks. He's making a huge gamble. If Bush wins next week, it's a career maker. If he loses, well, Brian Golden will have to go back to practicing law. No shame in that.
