IT TAKES A THIEF:

CATCH THIS IF YOU CAN, DAN: FORGER CRIES HOAX (DEBORAH ORIN and IAN BISHOP, September 15, 2004, NY Post)

Ex-forger Frank Abagnale — played by Leonardo DiCaprio in the 2002 Steven Spielberg movie "Catch Me If You Can" — scoffed: "If my forgeries looked as bad as the CBS documents, it would have been, 'Catch Me In Two Days.' " [...]

After he was finally caught and did several years in jail, Abagnale was released on condition that he'd help the feds for free, which he has done as an FBI consultant.

Meanwhile, the Democratic National Committee is featuring Rather in a new anti-Bush attack ad that it unveiled yesterday — at the very time that the CBS anchor's credibility is under heavy fire over "Memogate."

If CBS has any ethical standards can it keep Mr. Rather on the air covering a campaign he's now a partisan player in?

If CNN can do it with Kerry advisors Begala and Carville, why not?

Maybe Dan can be CNN's anchor.

It will be interesting to see if Begala gets over his Bush fixation after the elections; he used to be partisan but watchable before the Dem primaries, but now everything is Bush's fault, including Florida's three hurricanes, which are no doubt intended to drive low-income Dem voters out of the state.

If he stays that way throughout Bush's second term, CNN should get him a therapist.
(Or, as Orrin might prefer, a spiritual advisor).

Re: "if CBS has any ethical standards" ...

Even worse, do they have any brains? What a stupendously stupid move, for any network to allow any reporter, much less their anchor, to appear in a campaign commercial. Hello?!

Are there even words in the English language to describe the Kerry's campaign's level of incompetence?
