BUTTERFLY EFFECT (via David Hill, The Bronx):

Jewish GOP (Joel Mowbray, 9/09/04, FrontPageMagazine)

When President Bush talked in his acceptance speech last week about “our good friend Israel,” it did not go unnoticed, including to many Jewish voters.

That it was a huge applause line definitely did not go unnoticed, particularly to Jewish voters. This was, after all, the GOP convention, filled with Catholics, Protestants, and yes, evangelical Christians. [...]

None of this is to say that Bush will clear 50% of the Jewish vote. The high water mark for Republicans in recent times was set by Ronald Reagan, garnering almost 40%. But given that Bush captured less than 20% of the Jewish vote four years ago (and his father managed just 11% in 1992), simply scoring 35% would mark a huge improvement. Especially in Florida, which has roughly 500,000 Jews.

He won't get to 30%, but he can make Kerry waste time and money defending his base.

Important for evangelicals maybe not for Jewish voters.

Religious Jews regularly get under-polled, and they trend GOP.

Rudy beat Messinger among NYC Jews. Against the Hildebeest, Lazio the Lunkhead did better among Jews than he did among Catholics, Protestants or seculars.

I've already discussed why the Jewish vote will slowly but surely trend GOP unless we see a revitalization of Buchanan and his Brown Shirts.

These days, Buchanan is actually more likely to ally with the far Left - say, wait a moment, he _did_ try to ally with the far Left in the last election cycle, didn't he?

Insisting that Catholics are brownshirts is juvenile.

Did I use the word 'Catholic?' The Buchanan supporters are to me indistinguishable from Hitler's Brown Shirts. He received only 400,000 votes last time, and there are more than 60 million Catholics in the US.
