YOU THINK MAYBE SOME OF HIS THOUSANDS OF ADVISORS COULD HAVE HANDLED THINGS?:
Kerry knocks president's 9/11 behavior (MSNBC, Aug. 5, 2004)
“Had I been reading to children and had my top aide whisper in my ear that America is under attack, I would have told those kids very nicely and politely that the president of the United States has something that he needs to attend to,” Kerry said.
And done what? Sped around the Potomac in a swift boat? Did Bill Clinton drop everything to respond to the attack on Oklahoma City? Posted by Orrin Judd at August 5, 2004 6:26 PM
I think we'll find that he was advised to remain there until the Secret Service could assess the situation and make ready to haul.
Posted by: Tom Wall at August 5, 2004 6:39 PMMr Kerry's comment puts him in the same league of lunkheads as Michael Moore. Considering that Washington, D.C., was under attack, and that the president's staff had to check local security as well as switch to Plan B before going anywhere, it's impressive that Mr Bush spent only seven minutes in that classroom after getting the first report. No doubt the Secret Service is thrilled to hear that a President Kerry would have dashed out of the school immediately, perhaps into the sights of an RPG launcher. His penchant for pompous posturing knows no bounds.
Posted by: Axel Kassel at August 5, 2004 6:47 PMTh thing is after the first plane hit, did you know what was going on? I did not. All the attacks did not occur simultaneously. After the 2nd plane hit, of course, then you knew.
Posted by: Buttercup at August 5, 2004 7:05 PMShoot, I'll admit it: even after the second plane hit I clung to the admittedly stupid notion that it was some kind of freak accident. I just couldn't comprehend it.
Posted by: Governor Breck at August 5, 2004 7:21 PMWhat's more, Kerry is on record as saying that after the second plane hit, he, Pelosi, Reid, and other Dems sat around in an office in shock and did nothing until the plane hit the Pentagon, 40+ mins. later.

Posted by: Tomas at August 5, 2004 7:58 PMI was eight blocks north of the WTC when the planes struck and could see the plane and the building from a window in my office. I thought it was a private plane accident and knew otherwise only when I managed to get a look at a television. It was hardly a surprise to me that the President remained where he was for a bit; no one knew if this was only the first of a number of strikes, if he himself was in danger, or if it was just an accident. His calm demeanor when it happened, I believe, was a great help to me (and others I think). Indeed, the President's consistent public face of calmness was precisely what the country needed at the time.
Posted by: Morrie at August 5, 2004 8:00 PMBut, you see, Kerry is smarter than his Security detail. That's why he'd be calling the shots.
Because Bush is an idiot, he just listened to what the Secret Service told him to do and figured it would be the most prudent course of action at that moment in the absence of complete, accurate information about what was really happening. What a knucklehead.

As Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces, had he gotten back to Washington in time he might have had a chance to put in for his fourth Purple Heart award, if he happened to step on a piece of sharp metal or broken glass in the debris at the Pentagon.

Posted by: AWW at August 5, 2004 10:26 PMFor his next trick Treebeard will claim that the president allowed a plane full of saudis to leave the country while civil air trafic was grounded in the US.
Posted by: Robert Schwartz at August 6, 2004 1:13 AMKerry would have leapt immediately into action, and gotten the UN machinery of appeasement running within minutes.
Posted by: Robert Duquette at August 6, 2004 10:27 AM>And done what?
1) Get onto Air Force One as quickly as possible & fly out to a nuke-hardened site, making sure "I'M SAFE!"?
2) Start lecturing about "When I Served In Vietnam..."?
3) Start lecturing about "The Three Purple Hearts I Got When I Served In Vietnam..."?
Posted by: Ken at August 6, 2004 12:42 PMI haven't seen the film, but the descriptions make it sound like one of those demonstrations of sang[-froid that the Brits appreciate so much.
We don't, I guess. Around here, the folks who saw 'Fahrenheit' all harped on that incident. It made their skin crawl.
They wanted Sir Ronald, 'riding madly off in all directions,' apparently.
Posted by: Harry Eagar at August 6, 2004 2:18 PMNo, Kerry would have unleashed Teresa on them.
