WHAT WAR?:
Where's Rumsfeld? (Harold Meyerson, August 4, 2004, Washington Post)
Rummy's been under wraps for a while now. In fact, he disappeared around the time U.S. forces in Iraq disappeared.I mean, what have we heard out of our guys since we transferred power, as we say, to the Iraqis at the end of June? The whole occupation is under wraps. In June, when we were running the joint, 42 American soldiers were killed. In July, when we'd reduced ourselves to a historical footnote, 54 American soldiers died, but who knew it? None of our guys is around to talk about the occupation anymore. L. Paul Bremer is gone. Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez is gone. Rummy is -- well, that's what I was trying to find out.
We've gone from Mission Accomplished to Mission Invisible.
All of which was inevitable and known months ago, so why did the Democrats pin all of their presidential hopes on a war that would be over and an economy that would be bustling by Summer? Posted by Orrin Judd at August 5, 2004 3:10 PM
Funny, I heard Rummy on the radio just yesterday.

Well, what else have they got? They've got to run on *something* it might as well be this. It's either that or turn out the lights and let the Green Paty take over as America's primary leftwing party.

Because they inhabit a fantasy world that has only a weak correlation with the Real World. Therefore actual events and clearly seeable consequences of events in the Real World don't make it back into the world they inhabit.
Their social policies have been like this for decades---why wouldn't you expect that they'd handle political policies in the same manner?
