STUCK IN '68:
Kerry plays Nixon (Robert Novak, August 7, 2004, Townhall)
Democratic insiders privately complained that when John Kerry indicated last weekend he had a secret plan to return U.S. troops from Iraq, he sounded too much like Richard Nixon 36 years ago.Asked by Wolf Blitzer on CNN's "Late Edition" how long it would take to fulfill his promise to bring "significant numbers of troops back within the first term," Sen. Kerry replied: "I'm not going to lay out my whole plan here. I need to be able to negotiate as a president."
A candidate who can make it a common thread of the discussion that he resembles Richard Nixon has an almost infinite capacity for self-destruction. Posted by Orrin Judd at August 7, 2004 6:00 PM
One of the few things I can think of as a bright spot to a Kerry election is the idea of watching The New York Times, the major networks and the other traditional media types stuck having to justify Kerry's personality and actions in print and on the air for the next four years (OK, three years -- by 2007 they'd do a collective Howard Dean scream and start running conjecture pieces all over the place about a Hillary Clinton primary challenge...)
Posted by: John at August 7, 2004 9:07 PMI thought I saw elsewhere that he had a plan for the economy that would be released after he was elected. He really does think the electorate is stupid, doesn't he?

Why wouldn't he ?
Kerry kept getting re-elected to Congress, didn't he ?
Nixon won the elections, twice, with large majorities before he destructed himself. One can only hope that Kerry doesn't win twice.

Posted by: oj at August 8, 2004 7:59 AMI used to think the Democrats' slogan was "Building a Bridge to September 10, 2001." Now it seems clear it's more like a Bridge to the 1970's. No wonder so many washed up 70's figures (Ronstadt, the Eagles, Neil Diamond, etc.) are supporting Kerry.
Posted by: AC at August 8, 2004 9:01 AMWill Theresa talk JFK into changing the W.H. Police uniforms to a European style as Nixon did?
Nixon's looked Germanic to me but JFK's may have a French flair; Kepi's etc.
