Chirac appeared to be starting to hedge his Iraq bets at a French diplomatic meeting last week, and that was before his hostage situation (and before the two Russian airline bombings). Germany hasn't been touched yet, but...

Their 'multilateral' approach to Iran is a failure. My guess is they're trying to figure a face-saving way to join our little party, if for no other reason than to salvage commercial interests. Look for a proposal from the three on forgiving some Iraqi debt. Look for us not to say "We told you so."
