"I MEANT ALL THOSE OTHER WAR CRIMINALS"

KERRY PHONES SWIFT BOAT FOES (Drudge Report "World Exclusive", 8/24/04)

Dem presidential hopeful John Kerry personally phoned anti-Kerry swift boat vets, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Kerry reached out to Robert "Friar Tuck" Brant Cdr., USN (RET) Sunday night, just hours after former Sen. Bob Dole publicly challenged Kerry to apologize to veterans. . . .

KERRY: "When we dedicated swift boat one in '92, I said to all the swift guys that I wasn't talking about the swifties, I was talking about all the rest of the veterans."

Kerry is desperate to find something that will move the debate. Look for either an address in which the Senator tearfully reexamines the Vietnam war (he'll either celebrate brothers-in-arms nobly defending the country or denounce war-mongerers sending young men off to commit war crimes) or some bold new policy (either immediate withdrawal from Iraq, or national health care).

He'll resign from the Senate by or on Labor Day. Guaranteed...

Bold new plan -
Immediate withdrawal from Iraq - even the average voter would see this as huge example of cutting and running and a case of poor leadership.
National health care - HillaryCare didn't help Clinton in '94 and with Edwards on the ticket it will be easy to use it to go after trial lawyers.
Now that the MSM have started to focus on this story a bit I think the only thing that will move it along is if Kerry releases his military records and there isn't anything in them. Otherwise it will continue to be a he said-he said argument that can go on for the rest of the campaign.

If his military records were clean you would assume he would have released them by now. That is, if his campaign has anything on the ball, and that is still a point up for debate.

I suspect the boat has left the dock in Viet Nam. The focus is now in America and the Congressional hearings. Kerry cannot hide the record. His only hope is that no one really cares.

If this story is true, it is probably the first time Kerry has spoken (one-on-one) to a 'constituent' in years. That alone is newsworthy.

The Democrats will have more to whine about soon: Edwards is going to be the target of 527 ads regarding the trial bar.

I suspect Kerry's dramatic announcement will be a proposal to ban 527-type groups, after first noting that the evil Republicans forced him to act.

Edwards has his two Americas. Apparently Kerry has his two groups of veterans: 'my' Swifties and those other war criminals.

Don't expect a new option until after McCain speaks at the convention next week. The Kerry people are no doubt still hoping for a "Hail Mary" gift from the Senator where he goes on the platform at the RNC convention and denounces the mean-spiritness of the Swift Boat Vets' ad.

Rsign from the Senate? I dunno. First off, I can't see why this issue would have any effect on such a decision. If he already planned to, I would think he would've done it around convention time. If not, I can't imagine why doing so would help him now. (More time to focus? Please. "Time" ain't gonna help him through this.)

Secondly, in the midst of all this, headlines with the words "Kerry" and "resigns" in the same sentence? That could be a major subtle blow, like telling people a steam line blew a major gasket. They (Kamp Kerry) might not even believe that to be the case, but that is how it would "feel" to many, if not actually the case when you look closer.

Kerry may actually be stuck there until this dies down, if ever. I think he could resign only when his campaign is doing well. Kinda like Lincoln could only Emancipate the slaves after he won a big battle like Antietam. His campaign would have to be extraordinarily incompetent even to consider....

Oh.

Never mind.

(Heh. But I still don't think it'll happen.)

Wait a sec--he thinks that by saying, "I didn't mean YOU were a war criminal--just that everyone else was" these guys won't be mad at him? What a loathsome, loathsome man. And he obviously thinks everyone else is as despicable as he is.

OJ: My friend Ben says Kerry will be drawing a pay check as a US senator for thentire remainder of this year.

I say again: Lurch will NEVER resign his Senate seat. It gets him @12.5K/month, and given his gigolo status, he needs the semoleans. He is too gutless--and dickless--to give it up.

If he resigns, he's immediately compared to Bob Dole.

Which can't be good for him at this point for a number of reasons.
