QUIT WHINING:

Schwarzenegger Calls Dems 'Girlie Men' (TIM MOLLOY, 7/18/04, Associated Press)

A spokesman for Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Sunday that the governor would not apologize for calling lawmakers "girlie men," despite criticisms from Democrats that the remark was sexist and homophobic.

Schwarzenegger dished out the insult at a rally Saturday as he claimed Democrats were delaying the budget by catering to special interests.

"If they don't have the guts to come up here in front of you and say, 'I don't want to represent you, I want to represent those special interests, the unions, the trial lawyers ... if they don't have the guts, I call them girlie men," Schwarzenegger said to the cheering crowd at a mall food court in Ontario.

Heck, that's not even pejorative, just descriptive. Even the Times just wrote that Democrats are the female party.

Isn't that just a quote from the "Hanz and Franz" bodybuilder sketch from Saturday Night Live? How come no-one's yelling at them?

Will Andrew Sullivan continue to swoon over Arnold after this?

Good one. I can feel a "the governor has cost himself re-election" essay coming.

Hugh Hewitt notes the crowd cheered especially loud when trial lawyers was mentioned. Instapundit and others think portraying Edwards as a trial lawyer will backfire on the GOP in that lawyers are more popular than they believe. I think, if done correctly, the GOP can hurt Edwards on this.
As for Arnold this shows the press and the Dems have completely lost it.

Instapundit is a lawyer--he thinks people respect them.

Arnold is borrowing the old SNL catch phrase to make a point using humor, which is why the Democrats' reaction is so funny. Thirty years ago, when the show debuted, it would have been the Dems ragging on the GOP types for being clueless about the show's style of humor and acting too stuck-up about it. Now he uses a line that was spoken as a parody of himself while making fun of the Democrats, and they're the ones who get huffy and affronted (the reaction could be an act in iteself, as the Dems hope enough people don't know about Hanz and Fritz and will take the insult seriously, but for the supposed media-savy California Democratic Party, that's a pretty lame strategy).

Yeah, not being able to laugh at a joke like
that is a good way to get Joe Sixpack's vote.

It is obvious that they really have written off
white men as their constituency.

It seems the Napa Valley isn't the only place to get a good whine.

Good grief! I just saw a headline at Yahoo: "Schwarzenegger Stands By 'Girlie Man' Line". I could've survived a long time without having to hear that!
