WHAT LIBERAL MEDIA?:

Media coverage (Greg Pierce, 6/16/04, Washington Times)

Sen. John Kerry "had the best press of any nominee we've ever tracked — 81 percent positive," the nonpartisan Center for Media and Public Affairs said in announcing a content analysis of network evening newscasts in January and February. [...]

Meanwhile, the latest report from Media Tenor, an independent media analysis institute, found that "since April, the networks have practically abandoned coverage of President Bush's economic policy — even as the economy and labor market have shown signs of significant improvement."

Which raises the question of how useful an institution that is so out of touch with the American people and reality can possibly be.

It's not useful. That's why hardly anybody watches TV news or reads major papers.

Everytime I see reports such as this, it makes me think of the Pew Center poll that only around 30% of Americans believes anything the media has to say. Meaning none of this makes a damn bit of difference.

All too useful. Like Pravda, even if the readers know its bullshit, the fact that they have no other information source allows their world view to be molded simply by the information they're never given a chance too see.

How many people who don't read blogs, the Wall Street Journal or the NY Post even *know* there's a massive scandal regarding the UN oil-for food program?

After the 1984 election, Scotty Reston (NYT) all but admitted that the press did all they could to beat Reagan. The same result will occur this year. The media have been receiving low scores from the public for a long time.

The media is horrible now damning Mr. Bush but under a Kerry admin they'd be just as busy covering up his blunders. They would change their entire mission and still be consistantly biased. The media wont be honest with the public under Bush or Kerry.

Tom:

Remember the Perfect Paradise of the Clinton Years? No war, no crime (except for those Right Wing Militias), no terrorism (except for the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy), no poverty (yay dot-coms and you know who invented the Internet), no homelessness, and Ice Cream for every meal? How everything was perfect until GWB stole it all from us?

The media fondly remembers.

Then why do I keep remembering Oceania at war with Eurasia and not Eastasia?

And the chocolate ration being twenty grams instead of ten?
