THE LAST DAYS:
Bush's Erratic Behavior Worries White House Aides (DOUG THOMPSON, Jun 4, 2004, Capitol Hill Blue)
President George W. Bush’s increasingly erratic behavior and wide mood swings has the halls of the West Wing buzzing lately as aides privately express growing concern over their leader’s state of mind.In meetings with top aides and administration officials, the President goes from quoting the Bible in one breath to obscene tantrums against the media, Democrats and others that he classifies as “enemies of the state.”
Worried White House aides paint a portrait of a man on the edge, increasingly wary of those who disagree with him and paranoid of a public that no longer trusts his policies in Iraq or at home.
“It reminds me of the Nixon days,” says a longtime GOP political consultant with contacts in the White House. “Everybody is an enemy; everybody is out to get him. That’s the mood over there.”
If you think the whole world is out to get you it has to be a comfort to be able to order thermonuclear Armageddon. Posted by Orrin Judd at June 4, 2004 7:22 PM
More wishful thinking by a desperate Leftist!
And of course a comparison must be made with Nixon to justify their hatred of our great Commander-In-Chief!
Posted by: Oswald Booth Czolgosz at June 4, 2004 7:58 PMI have never heard of this columnist or publication. Are they legit?
Posted by: Jana at June 4, 2004 8:04 PMOrrin, what exactly was the point of reposting this? I just visited the site and it appears to be an extended, one-person anti-Bush rant.
Posted by: Joe at June 4, 2004 8:20 PMGiven the economic news of late, I guess they don't have Hoover to kick around anymore.
Posted by: jim hamlen at June 4, 2004 9:33 PMAnother fantasy hit piece from the crazy leftist. George W. Bush is driving these people insane. They have to create fantasy stories with unnamed sources to bring down the man.

Best response for June '04, so far?
"It's amusing".

This guy is out of his gourd. I read a few of his columns and did you know Dubya actually fired Tenet in a fit of pique and only later relented and gave Tenet a chance to resign instead? Or that Dubya now literally thinks he's on a mission from God? Wow.
Appearantly this guy get's the scoops no one else can get. Given that his beet now adays is Washington DC, it seems a shame that he spent all those years as a second string reporter for a bunch of small municipal and third tier regional newspapers.
Posted by: Robert Modean at June 4, 2004 11:56 PMThere'd be something wrong with him if he did not spend at least 15 minuts per day cursing the media. The press doesn't even try to hide it's bias anymore. It's almost refreshing.
Posted by: JAB at June 5, 2004 1:12 AMI've never heard of this guy either, but the post got me thinking: After the recent performances by Gore, Kennedy, Pelosi and Soros (and I think there's another big-name rant I'm missing), this is the kind of info that would help the Dems best neutralize their growing reputation as a bunch of delusionals whose meds need to be adjusted -- if there were a shred of information that backed it. Since we haven't heard boo, it must be bogus. Hey, I wonder if Bush has been harboring those armored bulldozer fantasies, too?
Posted by: Dave Sheridan at June 5, 2004 5:32 AMSome background: Doug Thompson and his site got most publicity earlier by publishing stories that Bill Clinton had raped several women, including one (two?), as I recall, in England. True? I have no idea. I have learned to be suspicous of all such rumors -- and of Bill Clinton's reckless sexual behavior.
So, I wouldn't consider Thompson simply a leftist. But he is a lot more willing to print rumors than I am. Is there some aide who believes his story about Bush. Quite possibly. Is it true? Probably not.
Posted by: Jim Miller at June 5, 2004 9:22 AMJim:
The difference being Juanita Broadrick went before the cameras and said Clinton raped her--which he's never even denied subsequently
The sublime hilarity of this story rests in the idea that these people are coming forward out of an admirable sense of patriotic duty to warn that the President is a dangerous psychotic and to make sure the word gets out they're going to Capitol Hill Blue? How about the Times or the Post?
Posted by: oj at June 5, 2004 9:34 AMPredictably, the Left is picking up on this silly story. Alexander Cockburn had a big writeup on it this morning at Counterpunch.
Posted by: Joe at June 5, 2004 10:24 AMSounds like someone caught parts the last half hour of "The Dead Zone" when they thought they were watching "The West Wing" instead. Not only are they confusing fantasy with reality, but they are getting their fantasies intermixed and confused.
Posted by: Raoul Ortega at June 5, 2004 11:15 AMThis story sure. But they are treating Soros like crazy Uncle Henry who got into the punch before the Xmas party and went into his rant about the Martians again, until Cousin Billy and Aunt Marge took him for a long walk outside.
Posted by: Robert Schwartz at June 5, 2004 2:28 PMI don't know; I feel the same way these days.
