THAT'S HELPFUL:

Lawmakers will meet to put Bush on ballot (LESLIE GRIFFY, June 4, 2004, Chicago Sun-Times)

House Speaker Michael Madigan on Thursday called lawmakers back to the Capitol next week to advance legislation to fix a snafu in state law that prevents President Bush from being on the November ballot.

I read the whole article and it doesn't explain WHY Bush can't be put on the ballot.

They'd hate to be a laughing-stock of the entire nation. Which they'de be if the sitting president were not on the ballot.

Bartman;

Because the filing date for getting on the ballot is before the Republican Convention, so by the time President Bush is officially the Republican candidate, it will be too late to file to get on the ballot in Illinois.

I have some sympathy for the anti-Bush view - the filing date has been set for years, it was the RNC decision to have the convention later than usual that created the problem.

AOG - If I recall correctly the difference between the deadline and when Bush will be nominated is only a few days. And only an idiot would think Bush won't be the GOP nomineee. And after NJ showed you can switch candidates right before the election the argument that they don't have time to get Bush on the ballots is ridiculous as well.

AWW;

If you want an unparalleled collection of idiots, the Illinois state legislature is a good start.
