U.S. launches another strike against terrorist safehouse in Iraq (Associated Press, June 25, 2004)
The U.S. military launched its third airstrike in a week Friday in Fallujah, using precision weapons to destroy a suspected safehouse for Abu Musab al-Zarqawi's terror network. Insurgents set off car bombs and seized police stations in an offensive aimed at creating chaos before the handover.
"Wherever and whenever we find elements of the Zarqawi network, we will attack them,'' a military statement said of the strike. [...]
"Our culture, our customs have been destroyed,'' interim Defense Minister Hazem Shaalan said. "The time has come for a showdown.''
Nice of Zarqawi to provide Iraq with a 'liberation myth' that will be more real than France's.
