SHOCK? IT'S CALLED DEMOCRACY:

Shock swing towards euroscepticism in European Parliament elections (Richard Carter, 14.06.2004, EU Observer)

Liberal leader Graham Watson said he regretted the fact that "parliament will have a greater number of anti-Europeans" adding that they will be rather "unproductive members".

What could be more productive than stopping the monster in its tracks?

"Unproductive Members"?

Is that anything like "Useless Eaters" or "doubleplusungood unpersons"?

I believe that "unproductive members" is also a euphimism for the elderly. Thankfully, the EU is taking brave steps to impliment a final solution for grandma and gramps.

It's a good point. Scanning the European press, one is struck by how many Europhiles are treating the dissenting votes as somehow illegitimate, and a force to be battled, rather than an indication of dissension that should be respected and addressed. Same as when they lose one of their referenda, which they often seem to do.

Watch the Left try to claim that Iraq was at the root of voter discontent in the Euro-elections, when the fact is that the ruling parties in France and Germany, which opposed the war, got clobbered. What's really going on is a gigantic wave of anti-incumbency and Euro-skepticism.

"What's really going on is a gigantic wave of anti-incumbency and Euro-skepticism."

Much good it will do them.
