DAMN HUMAN NATURE!:
Soaring sex claims hit military (Richard Yallop and Michael McKinnon, June 8, 2004, news.com.au)
REPORTS of homosexual harassment in the Army and Navy have soared as confidential documents reveal major failings in the ability of the Australian Defence Force to deal with sexual intimidation. An internal report obtained by The Australian shows the total number of sexual harassment complaints inside the Defence Forces doubled last year to 122. And out of those 51 were complaints by men against other men.
The previous year there were only 12 complaints of sexual harassment of males by other serving males.
Turns out, in wartime guys actually care who they're depending on, eh? Posted by Orrin Judd at June 8, 2004 9:00 AM
That's also why women should not serve in combat arms units.
They get enough harassment serving in support units during deployments.
No, they don't.
Posted by: oj at June 8, 2004 12:06 PMThey don't... What ?
You clearly aren't referring to sexual harassment of deployed females, since: "No, they don't", would mean a total ignorance of the subject.

Judging by military pregnency rates, they get plenty.
Posted by: at June 8, 2004 2:54 PMAh, a joke.
Posted by: Michael Herdegen at June 8, 2004 3:02 PMNo joke. They don't belong.
Posted by: oj at June 8, 2004 3:08 PMSince you don't even believe that women should be able to vote, I'll take that with the shaker of salt it deserves.
Should we allow women to own property ?
We're getting into 'Handmaiden's Tale' territory.
Posted by: Michael Herdegen at June 8, 2004 3:27 PMWomen who own property should be allowed to vote.
Posted by: oj at June 8, 2004 3:43 PMI'll have to go with oj on that one.
Posted by: at June 8, 2004 5:36 PMUsually, you don't get to choose who you're depending on.
The destroyer my father served on was commanded by a coward who groveled on the deck when the kamikazes came.
The junior officers, including Dad, judged they could manage OK without him and let it pass.
War is, I hear, a great clarifier of values.
Posted by: Harry Eagar at June 10, 2004 3:08 PMI think so, too. Makes it easier to have enough infantry also.
Dad, however, was not drafted. He was a career officer.
His craven captain was an aging Reserve commander who'd been a merchant master before the war and probably shouldn't have been in a high pressure combat command.
But, like I say, you don't get to choose.
Posted by: Harry Eagar at June 11, 2004 2:54 AMAs a merchant mariner, I take exception to that. However, I can't resist watching "Mister Roberts" at least once a year.
