Kerry Flies the Flag (The Prowler, 6/15/2004, American Spectator)

As the Prowler reported six weeks ago, the AFL-CIO has been telling supporters this Rep. Dick Gephardt was basically a lock as the vice presidential selection. Increasingly, union bosses have been hearing the Gephardt is no longer in the running.

"Gephardt better damn well be the pick," says an AFL-CIO lobbyist. "We've done too much for Kerry to get screwed this way. A governor from Iowa ain't going to cut it for our membership. It's been tough enough selling Kerry to some of our people."

Every state and constituency that's in play is supposedly Democratic.

VP choice was discussed in a post below. If Edwards doesn't get it southern Dems will be upset. If Gephardt doesn't get it the unions will be upset (although it should be noted the unions didn't do much for Gephardt in the primaries). Bush may want to keep Cheney just to avoid shifting the spotlight from Kerry's VP problems.

IIRC Kerry was going to announce his VP choice earlier. The fact that it is dragging out indicates he is having trouble finding any takers - what does this really indicate?

Is Sargent Shriver still alive?

JD - the public knows (or should know) that McCain and possibly several others have rejected Kerry. His final pick appears that it will be underwhelming. Unless the Hillary scenario plays out the Dems won't be charging out of the convention probably.
