SIGN US UP:
275,000 signatures on Kerry petition for Rumsfeld to resign (AFP, 5/10/04)
Some 275,000 people have signed a petition launched by Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) calling for US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld to resign over the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal, his campaign director said.
Nicholas Stixx informs us of this dueling Urgent Petition in Support of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, which has 30,000 signatures as of this hour. Posted by Orrin Judd at May 10, 2004 11:39 PM
So, two weeks ago Kerry was running against Dick Cheney. Now, he's running against Donald Rumsfeld. In a month, he'll be running against the White House copy boy, and his Vice President will be making stinging attacks on the fitness of Jenna Bush to be the daughter of a president.
Posted by: Timothy at May 11, 2004 2:22 AMWhy in the hell is a presidential campaign apparatus - in this case Kerry's - launching a petition drive aiming to drive a sitting Sec of Defense from office? This strikes me as being amazingly sophomoric, but then again I shouldn't be amazed because Kerry's campaign has been a series of juvenile ejaculations from the start. What's the percentage again of the populace that wants Rumsfeld to STAY in office?
Posted by: OldHat at May 11, 2004 11:18 AMSo Kerry has about as many signatures on his petition as he'll have votes in November?
Posted by: AC at May 11, 2004 12:23 PMWe are seeing a Presidential campaign run by and for MoveOn and Democratic Underground.

You might well be right: Kerry has never run a campaign where he has had to actually do something other than round up the usual votes. BTW, has anyone seen the fundraising ads or appeals that Kerry is supposedly using which feature Abu Ghraib? Sen. Inhofe referred to them on the Hill today. While I would not be surprised, this (if true) would continue to show how much the left hates the military (and any belief in due process, civil rights, etc.).
