Assad: a) is dumb, b) thinks Bush won't act before the election and thinks Kerry will win, c) believes Bush will not act due to Dem opposition, d) all of the above.
Posted by: AWW at May 13, 2004 1:14 PMHow exactly can Assad reject the U.S. sanctions?
Posted by: jd watson at May 13, 2004 2:30 PMAssad is undoubtedly among those world leaders that have endorsed John Flipflop Kerry. Like all other autocrats, dictators, theocrats and French presidents.

Posted by: genecis at May 13, 2004 9:26 PMOr Sultan Assad II is just being macho.
Arab culture is what Freudians call "hypermasculine", that is more-macho-than-thou with "masculinity" defined in some pretty nasty ways, then firewalled to the max.
If Sultan Assad didn't act hyper-macho, someone even more macho would pop him for the throne.

Jordan and Morrocco don't seem to be that way. Egypt isn't that bad.
Maybe it's not Arabs, but Syria.
