PSYCHOBABBLER (via Uncle Neil)
Remarks by Al Gore (May 26, 2004)
One of the clearest indications of the impending loss of intimacy with one's soul is the failure to recognize the existence of a soul in those over whom power is exercised, especially if the helpless come to be treated as animals, and degraded. We also know - and not just from De Sade and Freud - the psychological proximity between sexual depravity and other people's pain. It has been especially shocking and awful to see these paired evils perpetrated so crudely and cruelly in the name of America.
The scary thing is, just reading that you can tell he's writing his own stuff. At least John Kerry and Howard Dean get to blame their speechwriters. Posted by Orrin Judd at May 26, 2004 10:28 PM
I saw a clip of the performance on TV. Charles Krauthammer, who is also a psychatrist, suggested that Al is off his meds. I think you need to hyphenate the headline.
Posted by: Robert Schwartz at May 27, 2004 1:16 AM"...cruelly...in the name...of...America." Dotting the period with a triumphant flourish, he set down the antique fountain pen left for him by his father, and smiled as he gave the paragraph a second read. It was good. Harvard good, he beamed, recalling his student days. Maybe I should have gone for that Ph.D. after all. "Proximity between sexual depravity and other people's pain." Oh, yeah. That was genius. "Tipper?" he called to the other room. "Get ready in there," he warned playfully. "Big Al's comin' to kiss you good like he did in Los Angeles!"
Posted by: R.W. at May 27, 2004 1:48 AMThe whole Democratic Party is going pyscotic before our eyes – Gore, Kerry, Byrd, Kennedy, Pelosi, Dashel, ad nauseum.
Posted by: jd watson at May 27, 2004 3:41 AMI was fairly surpised to hear Mr. Gore's comments and the tone of his delivery while driving home from the golf course yesterday afternoon. The evening news had clips and my gut reaction was confirmed: he is insane.
Posted by: Tom Corcoran at May 27, 2004 9:30 AMHere in LA, KFI (talk radio AM 640) covered Gore's rant last night under the headline "Gore Goes Nuts!"
This morning, their drive-time guy (Bill Handel, a mouthy Brazilian Jew and proud of it) used sound bites of The Dean Scream as bumpers while he took the rant apart, even providing "Seig Heil!" voice-overs of the orgasmic crowd cheering Gore on and announced that Gore's performance had swung him firmly and evangelically towards Bush in '04.
Posted by: Ken at May 27, 2004 1:00 PMWell, this just confirms that Gore wanted to model his presidency after the Martin Sheen character in The Dead Zone, not the Martin Sheen character in The West Wing.
Posted by: Raoul Ortega at May 27, 2004 1:13 PMActually, Gore is beginning to resemble the Martin Sheen character in "Badlands".
