PAGING DR. RICE:

Cheney to have routine check of pacemaker (AP, 5/10/04)

Vice President Dick Cheney was undergoing a routine exam Tuesday to check on a pacemaker placed in his chest in June 2001.

And so it begins...

I'll believe Cheney being replaced only when it actually happens.
Assuming it does happen I rather see Rice as Sec State than VP given that she has never run for office before. Not sure who for VP - Rudy perhaps.
Cheney should stay around - special advisor or something like that.
And Rumsfeld should definitely not resign.

They should do it before Hillary teams up with Kerry.

David,

You mean like the Day-by-Day Cartoon for 5/4/2004 (sorry, no direct link)?

After reading Woodwards book, I think Cheney should be Director of Homeland Security. The guy spends every waking hour thinking about those horrors. Let him have at it.

Andrew - good suggestion. Would show seriousness on Homeland Security and keep Cheney heavily involved. Question is what do you do with Ridge without ticking him off (and perhaps some PA voters) My guess is you get rid of Mineta, give Transportation to Ridge (which obviously has a big security piece as well) and fill the VP with Rudy, Rice, or whomever.
