KNOWING YOUR ALLIES:
Al-Sadr Offers to Remove Militia From Najaf (Fox News, May 26, 2004)
[I]raq's national security adviser said al-Sadr had offered to remove his fighters from Najaf — except for those who live there.
Dang! The uninformed had such high hopes for his "rebellion". Posted by Orrin Judd at May 26, 2004 7:30 PM
Sounds like surrender to me. Where is the Shia uprising?
Posted by: jd watson at May 27, 2004 3:50 AMHe keeps it up, he won't have a militia.
Posted by: Sandy P at May 27, 2004 10:20 AMCool heads and firm resolution turned this situation around. Like OJ, I was annoyed by the defeatists, but we shouldn't give in to hubris that Sadr was doomed to failure. His defeat is taking hard work.
And let's not forget that in putting down Fallujah and Sadr, that our original targets in that operation seem to have escaped. I hope we have a plan in place to eventually find and eliminate them just like the Israelis did to the Munich Olympic terrorists.

The hubris lies in believing that we mattered much. Which way Sistani's support went counted far more.
Posted by: oj at May 27, 2004 12:07 PMOf course according to the right-wing blogs Bush is a complete wimp because Sadr still breathes and Fallujah isn't a parking lot...
