IT'S A MOVIE:

A Film That Could Warm Up the Debate on Global Warming: Whatever its flaws, "The Day After Tomorrow"' could do more to elevate the issue of global warming than any number of Congressional hearings or high-minded tracts. (ROBERT B. SEMPLE. Jr., 5/27/04, NY Times)

It could be similar to how the summer-blockbuster Armageddon led even the Left to support the deployment of a space-based defense against asteroids.

Of course, Mel Gibson was skewered by the bicoastal elites for revealing the reality of the Passion to make those, who already believed in Christ, appreciate their faith more.

Expect the same elite not to worry about (in fcat to celebrate) how the "Day After" invents a gory reality in an attempt to assimilate the unsuspecting into the cult.

But, like oj says, it is a movie. They will enjoy it like they enjoy a roller coaster: you ride it, you allow yourself to be scared stiff, but you don't run to the DOT afterwards asking for speed limits on the highways to be lowered and all turns straightened into a line.

I suspect a small percentage of the population will begin to burn even more fossil fuels to see if they can make the movie come true.

And maybe the 50th anniversary of the original Godzilla movie will "do more to elevate the issue of " radioactive monsters devastating Japan "than any number of Congressional hearings or high-minded tracts."

How stupid does one have to be to actually write stuff like that? Is that what they teach at Schools of Journalism? Do NYT writers have macro keys set up on their laptops to spew out random boilerplate like this?
