YOU'RE WORSER II:

Kerry Dismisses Critics of Time That He Took Off Campaigning (KATHARINE Q. SEELYE, 4/06/04, NY Times)

Mr. Kerry became combative when told that some conservatives were criticizing him for being a Roman Catholic who supported policies, like abortion rights and same-sex unions, that are at odds with Catholic teaching.

"Who are they?" he demanded of his questioner. "Name them. Are they the same legislators who vote for the death penalty, which is in contravention of Catholic teaching?"

So he concedes he's a bad Catholic but says others are too? The Mother Judd never accepted the "He did it to" defense.

Interestingly, Mr. Smarter-than-Bush either does not comprehend the difference between statements ex cathedra and statements of pragmatic concern -- or at least, pretends not to.

There's always a loophole.

So is any bishop going to publicly say that Kerry's interpretation of Vatican 2 is wrong, wrong, wrong?

Perhaps the Bishop of Trenton, who tore Gov. McGreevy a new one yesterday.

Robert: Except when it's not a loophole, but a reeeeally old teaching.

Jim: The Bishop of Trenton developed a spine?! Ye gods!
