Two gay lovers -- a man in a black dress and a boy in only a pair of shorts -- protested their families' lack of understanding for their relationship by climbing a Central Park tree on Thursday, stripping, performing lewd acts in front of onlookers and refusing to come down for hours. The lovers, ages 32 and 17, scaled the 55-foot larch tree next to the Chess and Checkers House around 4 p.m., said Detective John Sweeney, a police department spokesman.
The couple had told the boy's parents about their relationship and been rebuked, police said.
The man played on branches near the top of the tree and waved at onlookers while the boy sat quietly a few feet below him. Police said the man later performed oral sex on the boy and stripped down to a thong to taunt them.
Silly parents, it seems like a perfectly natural relationship... Posted by Orrin Judd at April 23, 2004 10:21 AM
They should be swinging from that tree (if you
know what I mean).
How on earth can anyone consider that a "protest?" What could those two possibly ahve been thinking? All their behavior did was confirm that something was wrong with their relationship. And with them.
Posted by: Brandon at April 23, 2004 11:39 AMAlert Parker and Stone -- this sounds like something that belongs on South Park!
Posted by: Ken at April 23, 2004 12:35 PMEven if a heterosexual couple did that, it would still be whacked beyond belief. That's not protest. It's really not much different from screaming nonsense at strangers on the street.
So I guess I'm agreeing.
Posted by: Brandon at April 23, 2004 1:12 PMBack in the early 80s, I lived around the corner from Byrn Mawr, and when the administration tried to suggest to the lesbian population that they tone down public displays of affection during graduation week, posters popped up all over campus with 'girls' promising to make love on the lawn during the ceremony in protest. Supposedly the Inquirer sent a photographer, but I never heard what happened.

I will bet you five dollars to a doughnut that most of those so-called "lesbians" now have a husband, three kids, and drive a SUV to drive said kids to and from soccer practice.

I would grant maybe half, but remember this is Bryn Mawr we're talking about. Plus, I knew a girl from my high school who attended there, was put into a dorm suite with two militant lesbians and another student who was basically their kept woman. My friend requested to be moved and when the administration refused, her father (a top-flight attorney) threatened to sue them.
Posted by: jim hamlen at April 24, 2004 10:09 AMI think they should have kept them up in the tree at least overnight, or a day or two.
