There are tens of thousands, but they generally live their lives just like regular folks. Of course, there are probably a fair number of people in this field who start out to get 'better'. Some do, and some don't.

And then there are the "agenda" ones: stay away from them.

What I don't understand is why she is only charged with submitting a false police report. She should be charged and prosecuted under the "hate crime" statutes on the books, as her actions and intentions were just as vile and damaging to race relations.

Only evil right-wing conservative fundamentalist Christian racist gay-hating jingoist patriotic Republicans can commit hate crimes. She was just showing the type of intimidation tactics we can expect if all right-feeling caring compasionate tolerant people aren't eternally vigilant in the fight against them.

While I know I'm making a useless ad hominem attack, I can't help but observe that these kinds of people have a certain look. You can almost pick them out in a crowd.

More than 20 years ago now, my colleague Bill Burke exposed an exactly similar incident by Rich Lapchick, son of the late, great Joe.

Rich specializes in racism in sports and was found lying in his office with the word NIGER carved on his chest.

This, of course, was a Klan attack, but Bill wondered, "Why would the Klan carve the name of a river on his chest?"

Anyhow, Bill proved Lapchick had done it to himself and wrote the story.

You might suppose -- a la Belleisles etc. -- that that would put up a roadblock on an academic career path, but no, Lapchick graduated to a much more prestigious school and last I heard was being quoted reverently by Tom Brokaw as an expert on racism.

You are absolutely right. You can pick women like her out of any crowd. Depending on where you are, they are called something like "Woodstock Woman."

They are almost always fat and unattractive, sometimes as a result of deliberate effort. I lived in Woodstock for a long time, so I've met a lot of them. 25 years ago they started talking about how "degrading" it was to make themselves attractive to a man. They succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. Many years later, no man will come near them. (Yes, I know this woman professes to be a lesbian.)

Lonely and sexually bereft, they fall deeper and deeper into fantasy and paranoia. They like to fantasize rapes and beatings in particular, because such violence is the only way that they can think of that a man might put his hands on them.
