CANADA IS NOW OFFICIALLY PARODY-PROOF (via Tom Morin):

Prison guards forbidden to wear protective gear (DOUG BEAZLEY, March 17, 2004, Calgary Sun)

Corrections Canada won't let guards at maximum security prisons wear stab-proof vests because it sends a confrontational "signal" to prisoners. "If you have that kind of presence symbolized by (a stab-proof vest), you're sending a signal to the prisoner that you consider him to be a dangerous person," said Tim Krause.

And for the Left, Canada is the image in which they want to remake the US.

Isn't calling your prison system "Corrections Canada" bad enough?

Canadian exceptionalism. Hey, we are desperate.

Nah, it's just the Calgary Sun on a very slow news day, trolling the parody sites and seeing what it can get away with as far as plaigarism. I'm sure I read this several weeks ago at Scrappleface or Borowitz or somewhere like that.

I'm glad to see that somebody in this world has some common sense (by the reactions of people on this site).

Something is terribly wrong when it comes to the treatment of criminals in Canada and Canadian corrections in general. Our American friends should also know that Surrey, BC has a prison with a golf course, where the prisoners spend most of their time interracting, watching TV, hanging out, and only go to their cells at night. A GOLF COURSE!!! (And no, it's not a golf course run BY the prisoners, it's run FOR the prisoners).

I work as a Bylaw enforcement officer for the City of Vancouver, and get into confrontations with people on a regular basis for something as plain as asking them to move out of a bus zone. I've personally been spat on, super-soakered, had water balloons chucked at me, had pop/beer cans thrown at me. I've had a guy swing at me, and twice people have tried to run me over. Vancouver has had 70 gang-style shootings (drive-by, clubs, etc.) in the last 5 years. Yet, the city refuses to provide its Bylaw enforcement staff even with vests, let alone any sort of defensive training, even though our officers have gotten assaulted in the past and recently one officer was seriously beaten.

This is a country where the criminal elements laugh at the police. There are 17,000 marijuana grow-ops in greater Vancouver. 17,000 houses have large-scale grow ops!!! Can you imagine??? To show you how effective our justice system is, a Starbucks manager was stabbed recently by a man who came into the store. The whole incident was caught on the surveillance camera. Even though everything was taped, the murderer received 9 years in jail.

Our American friends should laugh at our justice system, in fact, the whole world should. This is a country where bullies and roughians govern. There is no law and order.
