60-40 VISION FILE:

Anti-violence group says Hull should drop out of Senate race (FRANK MAIN AND DAVE MCKINNEY, March 2, 2004, Chicago Sun-Times)

M. Blair Hull should withdraw from the Democratic Senate race because of allegations that he verbally and physically abused his wife in 1998, a statewide anti-violence group said Monday.

"You can't abuse women with one hand and ask for their vote with the other," said Polly Poskin, executive director of the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault.

The allegations against Hull were made public last week after he and former wife Brenda Sexton asked a judge to unseal their divorce file.

Hull continued Monday to dodge questions about whether he struck or threatened Sexton, saying he does not want to "re-litigate" his divorce.

Dead man running.

They can always wait until the ballots are printed to switch candidates.

Haven't they learned? You run him right up until the end, and THEN you swoop in with a "dream" Dem candidate at the last minute to replace the guy!

If he's a Democrat, feminazis will come to his rescue and accuse his ex of not being a real women.

Agree with all of the above. Question - following the example of Lautenberg and Mondale, who are the 70+ year old dream Democrats left in Illinois?

Slightly OT - opinionjournal is saying that the GOP senator from Colorado (Campbell) may not run for health reasons. This may make the CO seat less solid GOP than before.

I'm still waiting for an explanation of how he punched her in the shin...

Paul Simon's dead, Carol Mosely Braun is a joke, even for the Dem's., Alan Dixon maybe?

Watch out for a Daley.

Dan Rostenkowski? :)

Kevin,Jim, Jeff
Of the choices you listed, Paul Simon would definitely be the best Senator. Although I guess someone would have to keep holding him up.

Posted by: h-man at March 2, 2004 3:07 PM

If he gets the nomination, who wants to bet that he explains the incident satisfactorily enough to get their endorsement over the Republican in the end?

Jim:

Democrats need to run well downstate to win. That's why Dixon and Simon, downstaters both, were such strong candidates. (Dixon lost in a bad turnout primary where the feminists put Braun up to punish Dixon for sucking up insufficiently in the Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas hearings).

The Daley name is a huge negative South of Chicago and would not be a good candidate statewide.

Glenn Poshard? Downstate, relatively conservative for a Democrat, ran pretty well statewide in the 1998 gubernatorial race.

In response to the question how did he punch her in the shin, there are several possible answers that Mr. Hull could put forward that are better than his weak "don't want to relitigate divorce" bit.
1. "Bush lied about the WMDs so why wouldn't the former Mrs. Hull lie about PTS (Punches to Shin)."
2. "Over three billion jobs have been lost to overseas while Bush has been President, it is time to have someone with imagination in the Senate and I have already demonstrated imagination by engaging in an area of spousal abuse that no one ever has been accused of before."
3. "She was holding me upside down by my ankles and shaking all my change out of my pockets, what else could I do."

Jeff:

After Meig's Field, Millenium Park, trucking scandal (work in progess), property tax increases, etc. the Daley name isn't doing so hot IN Chicago either.
