THE BLOWOUT BUILDS (via Kevin Whited):
Judges approve Republicans' congressional map for Texas (Associated Press, 1/06/04)
A three-judge federal panel on Tuesday approved a Republican-backed redistricting map designed to bolster the GOP's strength in Texas' congressional delegation, which is currently split between parties. The decision, which comes after a December trial, was a blow to Democrats who have worked for the better part of the year to block the GOP's efforts. Democrats in the Texas House and Senate both staged quorum-breaking walkouts last year in an attempt to kill redistricting bills.
Democrats held a 17-15 advantage before U.S. Rep. Ralph Hall of Rockwall switched to the Republican Party last week. Republicans say the new map could mean a 23-9 GOP advantage.
Let's render the 2004 election in the form of an SAT question: The Democrats are to the Republicans as Cumberland State was to________?
We'll send a book to the first correct respondent.

A football score, you, Orrin?

Congrats!
That score appears in the book Football's Unforgettable Somethingorothers, which we all bought at scholastic book fair as kids, and which also has a page on the great Colgate team--the only major college program ever to go undefeated, untied, unscored upon.

that year I think.
Was that the book with Slippery Rock, the college tackle from off the bench, and...what's his name...from the Vikings (wasn't Alan Page, was it?) scoring the wrong-way touchdown?
Great book, especially at 9:00 p.m. with the flashlight under the covers...
Ahh...the good old days.
Posted by: jsmith at January 6, 2004 10:01 PMThe wrong-way run was by Jim Marshall, not Allen Page (though Dallas' Leon Lett would later eclipse Marshall as No. 1 on the list of NFL defensive linemen doing dumb things with the football).
