MORE PEOPLE ARE SCUM

FDNY WIVES GET BURNED (Jeane MacIntosh, New York Post, 12/1/03)

It's the FDNY's "dirty little secret."

At least a dozen of New York's Bravest - some of them assigned to look after Sept. 11 widows - have left their wives for the spouses of their comrades killed in the terror attacks, sources told The Post.

the story didn't mention, and I don't remember:
did the FDNY widows receive large cash payouts ala the families of those killed in the Towers?
If so, would seem to be a quite mercenary decision.

I know he is not an astute judge of matters political, but I think Bruce Sprinsteen got it right when he wrote: "Hungry Heart"

Got a wife and kids in Baltimore, jack
I went out for a ride and I never went back
like a river that don´t know where it´s flowing
I took a wrong turn and I just kept going

Everybody’s got a hungry heart
Everybody’s got a hungry heart
Lay down your money and you play your part
Everybody’s got a hungry heart

I met her in a Kingstown bar
We fell in love I knew it had to end
We took what we had and we ripped it apart
Now here I am down in Kingstown again

Everybody´s got a hungry...

Everybody needs a place to rest
Everybody wants to have a home
Don´t make no difference what nobody says
Ain´t nobody like to be alone

It is not an excuse. But sometimes men do human things.

Robert:

Actually men do human things all the time. That's why there are rules.

This story appears to be as poignant and wrenching as they come. But, if one reflects hard and long, it is just a dramatic variation on the same old tired tale. Even heroes stumble. Maybe especially heroes.

The CNN report on Paula Zahn was good. One of the talking heads said that the setep was an accident waiting to happen.
