BUT HE HAD NO ROLE IN THE RESISTANCE AND WE'RE NOT ANY SAFER
‘Gold Mine’: Saddam Hussein’s Loyalists Infiltrated U.S. Operations in Iraq (Martha Raddatz, ABC News, 12/18/03)
Agents for deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein have penetrated the U.S. command in Iraq, ABCNEWS has learned. As a result, they have the potential to undermine U.S. authority.Posted by David Cohen at December 18, 2003 8:10 PMAmong the documents found in Saddam's briefcase when he was captured last weekend was a list of names of Iraqis who have been working with the United States — either in the Iraqi security forces or the Coalition Provisional Authority — and are feeding information to the insurgents, a U.S. official told ABCNEWS.
I would assume most of those people have been on sick leave since Monday.

Posted by: Harry Eagar at December 19, 2003 12:40 AMI am afraid that for ABC News, "Gold Mine" refers to the Saddamites' infiltration, and its potential to wreak havoc. I seriously doubt they would consider Saddam's arrest along with the subject information a real payoff.
Posted by: MG at December 19, 2003 9:18 AMHoly Cow. The only way this could've been better, is if Saddam had been captured with a suitcase nuke in his sock drawer.
