ONE MORE REASON TO BE THANKFUL:

Schilling will waive no-trade clause (Jayson Stark, November 28, 2003, ESPN.com)

After three days of negotiations, the Red Sox and Curt Schilling have agreed to a deal on a two-year contract extension. Sources with knowledge of the negotiations say the deal will be announced later Friday night.

It's hard to overstate the magnitude of what last Summer & Fall did to an already Red Sox crazy region. At dinner yesterday, all anyone could talk about was Game 7--folks elsewhere may know where they were when Kennedy was shot; here we know where we were when Pedro came out for the 8th--and the possibility of getting Schilling and A-Rod.

Congratulations to the Red Sox. Pity us poor Diamondback fans who are watching our World Series Champions float away to be replaced by low cost players.

MLB economics suck.

Curt went onto one of the message boards and started rapping with the diehard Sox fans last night. I think it was redsox.com. Apparently both the Sox brass and Curt were equally impressed with the preparedness of the other side for this negotiation. Last night the talks broke down to the point of each side prepared to walk away.

I don't know why everyone says it's important for us to get foulke, I happen to think Williamson is nastier, younger and cheaper, but, hey, we'll take him just the same, and have a thouroughly nasty pitching staff, from all five starters, to a nasty bullpen to one of the top 4 closers in the major leagues.

For future reference, www.bostondirtdogs.com is an excellent red sox nation web site.

I told my Dad (a lifelong Yankees fan) over dinner that I had been turned away from the Dark Side and was now a Bosox fan. His reaction was similar to when I told him I was voting for Dubya.

Did you tell him Julia and Eric Roberts are the same person yet?

Why even bother with the regular season, just let the RedSox and the Yankees play the American League Championship series now. Winner plays the Marlins in the World Series.

The sox had to pony ups casey fossum and 3 others. Last year they could have gotten Bartolo Colon, who is 10 years younger than Schilling, for fossum straight up.
