Oakland at Red Sox (ESPN Radio, 10/05/03)

One of those moments today, at the start of the broadcast, where you realize how peculiar a nation we are. John Rooney is just running through their normal PSA's and disclaimers and what not, mentions that the game is being carried on Armed Forces Radio, and then thanks the troops for defending "our way of life," which leads Buck Martiniez to chime in and thank them too. Figure you get much of that on French soccer coverage?

Of the four series this has been by far the best. Great pitching and both teams are about equal to each other.

I could stand it if Oakland was a little less equal.

Dave - to get to the series the Sox will have to beat the A's in Oakland and then beat the Yankees in a series. If that happens can't argue that the Sox didn't earn it.

Great game yesterday. Red Sox over Oakland tonight. See you at The Stadium! Should be a fun series. Yanks in 7.

Game 3 of the A's-Red Sox series will be the one they show the Little Leaguers in April. "Okay, boys, watch Eric Byrnes miss the plate because the catcher blocked it, get mad and start hopping around on one foot, shove the catcher in a fit of pique, get tagged out because the catcher and the plate umpire were paying attention to the game, and wind up costing his team the game, the series sweep and the end of the season. Now what's the moral of the story? There are two: One is, never patronize a 'hairstylist,' even if you live in northern California. The other is, don't be a boneheaded crybaby like Byrnes. Cowboy up."

(And just to make it more agonizing, show 'em the 9th inning of Game 5, with Byrnes, carrying the tying run, watching helplessly from third while Derek Lowe gets the last two outs on truly nasty looking strikeouts.)

I love October. And I'm a Dodger fan.
