IT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR DOGS:

Man jailed after shipping himself to his parents (Mary Vallis, September 10, 2003, National Post, with files from The Associated Press)

According to a police report, a delivery driver was under the impression he was transporting a 160-kilogram box containing a computer, a monitor and clothes to a suburban home in DeSoto, Tex., from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. When he parked and opened his truck to unload the crate, he noticed a pair of eyes staring at him through the slats.

"He stated that he initially believed there was a deceased body in the crate until the slats were kicked open and a live person emerged," the police report says.

The delivery man fled and called police.

The stowaway, later identified as 25-year-old Charles D. McKinley, picked up the crate and took it to the garage.

This happening so close to the anniversary of the 9/11 attack should make it resonate more with transportation security people, since it's easy to picture a few terrorist stowing away in a cargo jet cargo container and then being able to get out and overpower the crew, with no passengers around to either provide early warning or help fight them off.

This reminds me of a story from quite a few years ago.

A large suitcase was traveling around the baggage carrel at LAX, for about three days, I believe, and when it was finally pulled off the corpse of a woman was inside. No ID.

Man, that was the loneliest death in modern times, circling endlessly in an anonymous international airport.

I believe eventually she was identified, a S. Korean illegal immigrant.

Remember the Vitnamese guy who rode to America in the propeller housing of a cargo ship--that's some get up and go.
