IMMORAL EQUIVALENCE:

Here are the listings for two NY Times' editorials from their Headlines e-mail today:

Two Years On:
An outpouring of patriotism by Americans was one of the natural effects of Sept. 11, but the purity of our first reactions has been eroded by time.

..................

The Other Sept. 11:
Thirty years ago today in Chile, Gen. Augusto Pinochet staged a bloody U.S.-supported coup that led to the deaths of 3,000 people.

Perhaps by eroded purity they mean comparing 9-11 to the coup in Chile that led to that country becoming one of the healthiest country--economically and democratically--in the Third World.

The Times and the Wall Street Journal really need to swap editorial offices, so Gail Collins and her gang would have to look down on the site of Ground Zero every day from the World Financial Center while they're typing up dreck like this (West 43rd St. apparently being as far away as Mars in terms of the Times editorial staff's ability to completely detach the reality of 9-11 and the required actions in the war on terrorism that it launched).

The New York Times has been detached from reality since Bolshevism first raised its ugly head. Sadly, they are becoming a leftist caricature. It is surprising how many natives from this part of the country no longer read the Times on a daily basis. Pinch Sulzberger couldn't care less. If you have ever heard him speak, he comes across as a silly, shallow man. How could a serious person take Howell Raines and his views as anything other than rarefied, upper West Side political nonsense?

The NYT stinks out the joint. But give credit where credit is due, the NYT has achieved the ultimate transformation, from newspaper of record to Leftist political rag.

Tom, I grew up hanging around Pinch's illegitamate half-brother during my early elementary school years (the half-brother part I didn't know about until three years ago when I bought the paperback version of "The Trust"), and I heard Gail Collins speak about the upcoming Bush-Gore election in Dallas back in 2000. Based on those two events, I'm confident the mental candlepower up in the Times' executive offices isn't a fire hazard to anyone.

It appears that the editorialists at the NYT and Le Monde think alike.

Mr. Judd;

Is it not more likely that increased wealth and personal liberty are exactly the things that indicate erosion of what the NY Times editorial board would like to see in the citizenry? After all, wealthy, free people tend not to worship their alledged "betters".
