HE SAID WHAT?:

Democratic Presidential Nominees Debate

This debate was rebroadcast just prior to Booknotes on C-SPAN tonight and towards the end Senator Lieberman said something that would have been astonishing coming from any of the candidates but was especially appalling coming from him. He was in the middle of assuring the audience that he'd reverse the Bush administrations policies on illegal immigration, a pander to the Hispanic vote that seems fair enough foir a Democrat, especially one who's in New Mexico. But then he said that one reform he seeks in the legislation he has before Congress is that never again would someone like John Ashcroft be able to use the excuse of a terrorist incident to round up and hold 800 undocumented aliens. Now, assuming "undocumented" is happy talk for illegal, he would appear to be saying that the nation's law enforcement officials shouldn't be able to arrest illegal aliens, but more than that, he's suggested that it was wrong of John Ashcroft and the administration to arrest illegals in the wake of 9-11. Is he out of his freakin' mind?

N.B.: I couldn't find a transcript of the debate--has anyone seen one?

Didn't see the debate, but after watching old Joe plant his lips on Kweisi's cheeks, anything is possible.
