IF ONLY HE'D MARRIED CLARA HARRIS...:

The dispensable truth (Paul Greenberg, April 21, 2003, townhall.com)
Thank you, David Kendall, for a moment of comic relief amid all the war news. Last week the Clinton Follies were back in Little Rock, and the former president's lawyer was the star.

The occasion was a seminar on the Clinton presidency, and Counselor Kendall could have just walked onto a television set some time in 1999. His spin hadn't changed a bit. Once again he was denouncing the case against his client as "constitutional vandalism" -- much ado about not very much.

The effect of the Clinton impeachment, he warned the students, would be to lower the standard for impeaching future presidents. After all, the charges were small potatoes: perjury and obstruction of justice.

It's one thing to argue that The Hon. William Jefferson Clinton wasn't guilty of those offenses, another to contend that they were not serious accusations -- sufficiently serious to warrant removing a president from office.

We'd have impeached him for the adultery. Anyone who would violate their wedding vows can not be trusted to honor their oath of office. Posted by Orrin Judd at April 21, 2003 7:57 AM

What's that again about defining deviancy down? So typical. The precedents set by these guys are gonna come back and bite us. Wait and see.

Of course, they will strenuously deny any causality between future events and WJC's low-rent behavior. OTOH, if violating marriage vows is truly a leading indicator, then essentially _every_ powerful politician could not be trusted.

Which ones do you trust?

He should have had the character to step down from office. He was a disgrace to the nation.

While the military is not a particularly stable community in which to be married (I know plenty who have bent vows) -- blatant promiscuity is a career ender in the military, or any sexual conduct while on duty. What is allowed the junior ranks (off-duty)as youthfull hi-jinks is quickly sanctioned after the first promotion into leadership ranks. (Of course this relates to conduct that becomes public, there is no "sexual police" in the military, contrary to assertions by gay activists.) I've known of Regimental Commanders (Full Colonels) relieved for adultery. Without a spouse, there is typically no chance at making general.

What Clinton did would have him removed from leadership in every publicly traded company in the US, and in every Military Unit in the US. Because his judgment, credibility, morality and loyalty have proven utterly worthless by this repeated conduct.

Mr. Malynn:

None of which disqualifies one from leading the Democratic Party apparently.
