UNMENTIONABLES:
LIEBERMAN IN TROUBLE WITH BLACKS OVER SUPPORT OF THURMOND (DONALD LAMBRO, 2/28/03, Washington Times)Black Democrats are still fuming about Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman's tribute last year to former South Carolina Sen. Strom Thurmond, an indication of the Connecticut Democrat's continuing problem with blacks that threatens to undermine his bid for the party's presidential nomination. Former Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson, a longtime civil rights activist and prominent player within the Democratic Party, said Mr. Lieberman's little-noticed remarks were still troubling and that blacks have not forgotten them. "I didn't appreciate Lieberman saying that Thurmond is 'a man of iron with a heart of gold,' " Mr. Jackson told The Washington Times last week at the Democratic National Committee's winter meeting. Mr. Lieberman was among seven presidential hopefuls who addressed the group.
We eagerly await the first national news story acknowledging how problematic a Joe Lieberman presidential nomination would be for a party whose Jewish and black loyalists increasingly loathe each other. Posted by Orrin Judd at March 7, 2003 8:26 AM

Throw Al Sharpton into the mix and watch the Democratic party melt down.
Posted by: Thom at March 7, 2003 10:27 AMStrom Thurmond was no more racist than Bob Byrd was in their segregationist days. Both have apologized for their pasts.
Yet only one has been forgiven ... the other has an 'R' beside his name.
