REQUIEM FOR A LIGHTWEIGHT:
The Moral Idiocy of James Carroll (H.D. Miller, March 25, 2003, Travelling Shoes)
He Who is Sensibly Shod chastises the insufferable James Carroll for essentially declaring Saddam Hussein's Iraq morally equivalent to George W. Bush's Washington.
Posted by Orrin Judd at March 25, 2003 4:28 PMYou know the funny part?
If black Americans were being nerve-gassed and slaughtered for the crime of being black, if Muslim/Jewish/Catholic Americans were being tortured for not being Protestant, if the entire state of Florida had been drained in order to deny the locals there any place to resist, and if, the millions strong "Minutemen Dubya" were allowed to execute anyone w/o benefit of trial, then quite probably his scenario WOULD be justified.
But one is forced to wonder, for the likes of James Carroll: Is there ever any evil worth opposing w/ more than words? Is there any form of corruption, any abuse of power, any violation of persons that would be worth taking up arms against?
After all, we flattened Essen, Hamburg, Koln (and, yes, Dresden). Was that worth it? We blasted Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Did ending the Japanese experimentation on humans of chem and bio weapons, and the indiscriminate slaughter of a few thousand Asians every week
justify that?
The mind reels at how a James Carroll would answer that....
Can you believe he is the son of the
founder of the Air Force OSI, and the
DIA (General George Carroll)
narciso:
If you follow the second link there it takes you to my review of his awful book about himself and his dad.
