DEJA VU:

Iraq: U.S. Missile Kills 58 in Baghdad (HAMZA HENDAWI, 3/28/03, Associated Press)
Iraq's information minister said at least 58 people were killed Friday in a crowded market in northwest Baghdad by what local officials called a coalition bombing.

The market was strewn with wreckage and there were bloodstains on a sidewalk. Crowds of mourners wailed and blood-soaked children's slippers sat on the street not far from a crater blasted into the ground.

The U.S. Central Command in Qatar said it was looking into the report. Iraqi officials have blamed U.S. forces for explosions at another market that killed 14 people on Wednesday. The Pentagon had denied targeting the neighborhood.

What the heck, the last one they blamed on us worked so well they decided to do it again, even down to using a marketplace. Posted by Orrin Judd at March 28, 2003 6:50 PM

I wonder if it also had a large Shiite concentration? Funny how that happens in Saddam's Iraq.

They have actually arrested three "collaborators" who have confessed to bombing for the coalition. I wonder what horrors they have subjected these men or their families to. It's disgusting. And the sad thing is that Charles Rangel will believe them.

Ann Garrels, one of perhaps 2 honest reporters

working for NPR, described it as a relatively

poor Shia neighborhood.

Although Garrels did something strange--she reported immediately after the first one that when her car pulled up to the scene a soldier shooed them away and said they were too close to a military installation. Then she did set up pieces later where she never mentioned the possibility that there was a legitimate target in the area.

oj - Perhaps she knows it was an Iraqi bomb, not a US attack on a military target.

And NPR would NEVER report that...of course I guess that is what pj meant.

I read in The Corner that both attacks were against Shiite areas.
