MILKBONE UNDERWEAR:
Mineta saved by illness (Robert Novak, February 1, 2003, Townhall.com)According to high-level administration sources, Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta was scheduled to follow former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill as the second Cabinet member to be fired by President Bush until illness landed him in Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
One would assume that they'd want to add a Democrat to the Cabinet if they do sack Mineta. Unlike January 2001, they should be able to find a qualified one, now that even Democrats acknowledge that George Bush is President. Not that it will ever happen, but it would be worthwhile offering Senator Bob Graham the CIA and carte blanche to shake things up. Then you could either let Tommy Thompson fulfill his odd dream of running the Transportation Department or promote the Card protege who's mentioned in the column. Actually, after he finishes with his post at Freedom House, Jim Woolsey,
should return to head the Company,
or failing that, Homeland Security
after Ridge. His insights, into missile
defense, the Islamic terrorist threat,
Iraq, (including the shameful
treatment of the Guam 6 INC members by the Clinton administrations will serve us in good
stead; remarkable considering his start being the chairman of Democrats for Gene McCarthy
at Yale Law
Interesting you should think the Republicans
would or should include a Democrat.
During the 20th century, Democratic administrations
almost always included Republicans in the
Cabinet, but I believe the reverse was never
true.
That's wrong.
