DARWIN'S RIGHT, I'M WRONG:
Volunteer 'Human Shields' to Head for Iraq (Andrew Cawthorne, 1/21/03, Reuters)A first wave of mainly Western volunteers will leave London this weekend on a convoy bound for Iraq to act as "human shields" at key sites and populous areas in case of a U.S.-led war on Baghdad.
I've always said that I'd concede the truth of Darwinism if only someone would provide an ongoing example of natural selection in action. I concede the point. The human gene pool can only be strengthened by the removal of these deviant strands of DNA. Posted by Orrin Judd at January 21, 2003 3:27 PM
Its funny, if you lined people up and said "All the stupid people, raise your hands", no one would respond but if you say, "Who wants to visit a brutal dictatership because
the most powerful nation on Earth is about to bomb it", up go the hands.
This story is a Judge Advocate's wet dream. Protected persons who intentionally abuse their status to shield military targets and not merely thereby unprotected, they are war criminals. This is, in Darwinian terms, a lethal mutation.

You know what Ma Gump said: Stupid is as stupid does.
So can we arrest them now for war crimes, or do we have to wait until a bomb drops on them? ;)

The thing that crossed my mind second, after Hollywood stars, was how
many Christian groups or people are involved in things like this.
This highlights a real debate over how to interpret Christ's
teachings, a debate stretching back almost 2000 years. It also sets some
limits on the type of criticism certain types of protest can take,
however misguided or stupid.
Even though I do not believe in God, I find 'Christian' protest as
being an order above political or ideological.
Actually, you mention Darwin. This would be one way for a whole
interpretation of Christ to be made extinct if taken to logical
conclusions.
If you would really like to observe evolution by natural selection in action, I recommend This book
Posted by: John Weidner at January 21, 2003 11:16 PMYes, it's a fine book. I review it here:

But that's not evolution.
Orrin, you need to be precise. What you call evolution
has nothing to do with darwinism, although darwinism has everything to do with evolution.
Of course the radiation of finches in the Galapagos was/is evolution.
