DON'T LOOK BACK:

Trent Lott Will Resign Senate Majority Leadership Post (Fox News, December 20, 2002)
Trent Lott is stepping down as incoming Senate majority leader. The Mississippi Republican will remain a senator.

"In the interest of pursuing the best possible agenda for the future of our country, I will not seek to remain as majority leader of the United States Senate for the 108th Congress effective Jan. 6, 2003," Lott said in a written statement "To all those who offered me their friendship, support and prayers, I will be eternally grateful. I will continue to serve the people of Mississippi in the United States Senate."

One would like to see Senator Lott take advantage of this opportunity and redeem himself by becoming, in essence, the Party's ambassador to black America. This is not to say he should change any of his political positions, rather that he should meet with blacks groups and go to black churches and explain why he thinks conservatism is good for black America. Not only "like to see" - love
to see -- but is Lott capable of articulating why conservatism is good for black America? If he could do that he might still be majority leader.

Let's not get carried away here--the guy served the Party reasonably well--we'll exclude Impeachment and Jeffords--for three decades. He's not a buffoon.

of course this is the same guy that naturally reflexed just a week ago as to the benefit of affirmative action. He showed his true colors, so at this point he has become a pariah one down the food chain from McCain and the such. I kind of lost respect for McConnell in this whole ordeal too. This was a good shake-up and unmasking.
