CROSSING OVER?:
Letter to the Editor (NY Post, 12/27/02)My son was murdered on Sept. 11.Sen. Patty Murray's affectionate representation of bin Laden is sickening. It is a vulgar demeaning of not only my son, but of everyone who perished that day.
There is no way the senator can properly represent Americans when her sympathies embrace evil. She should resign and allow someone to hold her position who will tender reverence, respect and honor to Americans and not to those evil people who slaughter for kicks.

Unfortunately, it would probably take some public comment by Rudy Guiliani to make this a national story, since the media obviously has no interest in holding Ms Murray to some kind of Trent Lott standard. Posted by Orrin Judd at December 28, 2002 6:01 AM
Where is the vast right wing media monopoly when we need them? I've been to Afghanistan (post 9/11) and can tell you that her comments would not have been pushed under the rug by the Afghans...they would have been furious, and rightly so. They suffered cruelly under OBL and the Taliban--he was not admired in the least. He spent his millions and the Saudi/Arab 'aid' destroying the country, accumulating weapons, training terrorists, indoctrination centers (i.e. 'schools') and building the ubiquitous (and unnecessary) mosques used to preach hatred for the west. The Afghans were having none of this--and happily cheered the American liberation.
Posted by: john at December 28, 2002 10:18 AMThe scandal here isn't the statement itself, but how she came to make it-- she's quoting from some left-wing policy organization's report, which she has accepted uncritcally. Patty the Muron's been well known for letting others think for her. This time, it got her into trouble. But the people doing this sort of thinking are still out there, feeding lies to people not as stupid as Patty to repeat them out loud in public. This particular lie obviously won't be pushed, but expect a lot of others, especially as a real shooting war approaches.
