TOUGH LOVE:

Partying Daughter Grounded, Foot Nailed to Floor (Reuters, Nov 27, 2002)
A Cambodian mother took drastic measures to stop her party-loving 13-year-old daughter from going at out night -- she nailed her foot to the floor, officials said on Wednesday.

Gotta admit, I'm on the Mom's side here. Posted by Orrin Judd at November 30, 2002 6:41 PM

This reminds me of one of a series of "Mommy, mommy" jokes that convulsed me and my (budding conservative?) classmates back in fifth grade:

"Mommy, mommy, why am I running around in circles?"

"Shut up, or I'll nail your other foot to the floor."

Glad to see you're coming around to the all comedy is conservative POV.

Orrin, Yer kiddin' right? Setting aside the obvious that driving a nail through a daughter's foot is child abuse in the extreme, that she did it try to keep a daughter from partying will make her a club that will be used by those who oppose moral standards to beat up the those of us who support them. (I can see it now "those consersatives speak of "family values" but are the worst abusers of all") I know it's BS, but that won't stop it from being printed and getting traction.

Given a choice between the 13-year old daughter out tramping around or nailed to the floor, I'm at least ambivalent.
