Catalonia separatist leader urges binding independence vote (The Associated Press, 9/11/16)

The leader of Spain's powerful northeastern region of Catalonia has said he plans to propose a government-approved binding independence referendum to secede from Spain by next year.

Brexit is a pretty minor manifestation of a universal trend towards self-government by peoples who understand themselves to be a distinct polity.
