ALL COMEDY IS CONSERVATIVE:
Sales of a 'Caucasians' shirt skyrocket (RUSSELL CONTRERAS, 4/09/16, Associated Press)
Sales of 'Caucasians' shirts, depicting the Cleveland Indians' team mascot as a caricature of a white person, skyrocketed one day after ESPN's Bomani Jones wore one on a show, the shirt's creator said Friday.Brian Kirby, who runs Shelf Life Clothing Co., told The Associated Press that more than 2,000 shirts have been sold since Jones sported one on Thursday while co-hosting the network's "Mike & Mike" show. At one point, Kirby said, traffic to his website was so heavy that the site crashed, and his internet host dropped him.
I was at Colgate when it was decided that our Red Raider name and mascot had to go because it was offensive. At a meeting with the President of the UIniversity I suggested that we return to the roots of the college and go with The Scrappy Baptists, since our tribe would not be the least bit offended by being so honored. Suffice it to say, they just switched the name to Raiders and went with what looked like a maroon bean bag chair for a mascot. We started calling ourselves the Big Red Toadstools....
The sales of these shirts, likewise, demonstrate the point that no one in their right mind objects to being an aspirational symbol.
