THE UR'S SPEECH PRETTY MUCH WRITES ITSELF...:

Sen. Cornyn Holds Out Hope for Tax Compromise (John D. McKinnon, 10/31/10, WSJ)

Mr. Cornyn’s comments came amid signs that more Democrats could support an across-the-board extension of the Bush-era tax cuts once election season is over.

“I think there is an increasing bipartisan support” for extending all the Bush-era tax cuts, at least for a while, Mr. Cornyn said today on ABC’s “This Week.” “I hope we’ll continue the current tax policy for the near term, perhaps the next couple of years. Perhaps there’s a bipartisan solution there.”

Already, half a dozen Democratic senators have bucked their party leadership and signaled interest in extending all the current tax levels, at least while the economic recovery remains shaky. A few Democratic challengers also have taken up that position on the campaign trail.

..."The American people have sent a loud and clear message that they want Democrats and Republicans to work together to solve our problems. As a first step in this process I call on the Congress to extend the Bush tax cuts as is and ask Republican leaders to appoint several representatives to a White House working group that will look for ways to simplify the tax code permanently. blah, blah, blah...."
