JUST AS "THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO BUILD A MOSQUE WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT" IS A COP-OUT...:
Deadly stupid: No way to remember 9/11 (Manchester Union Leader, 9/11/10)
One of the reasons we are still fighting Islamic terrorists in far-off parts of the world, and at home, nine years after the 9/11 attacks is because al-Qaida and like-minded groups have been able to convince a steady stream of young Muslim men that the United States is a nation of crusaders intent on crushing Islam. A pastor burning hundreds of Korans on the anniversary of 9/11 wouldn't have helped America dispel that myth. And it just might have gotten more Americans killed.
...so too is the argument that burning the Koran is a bad idea because it could get people killed. A Muslim community center modeled on the 92nd St Y is a good or a bad idea in its own right, and folks ought to justify or oppose it on that basis. Likewise, burning another religion's holy text is a good or a bad idea and ought to be justified or opposed on that basis. Posted by Orrin Judd at September 11, 2010 10:07 PM
