The U.S. Senate approved a $60 billion measure to fund the troop buildup in Afghanistan after refusing to include $10 billion in state aid sought by the House to prevent an estimated 140,000 teacher layoffs.Posted by Orrin Judd at July 23, 2010 5:40 AMThe House plan, which the Obama administration had threatened to veto, was blocked late yesterday on a 46-51 procedural vote, with 60 needed. The Senate then voted unanimously to pass its version of the war bill and send it to the House for approval.
